The Uniform Project

What would it be like to wear one dress all year long? The Uniform Project is a project, started and carried out by Sheena Matheiken. She has seven identical dresses, one for each day of the week (otherwise it wouldn't be very hygienic, would it?). During one year, she will wear the dresses every single day. Growing up as a child in India, Sheena was inspired by the way that her schoolmates tweaked and individualized their identical uniforms. Now living in Brooklyn, NY, she will create a different look for every day only by means of layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments (mostly vintage or hand made) and publish these online.

The project is also a fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation. The contributions will go toward Akanksha’s School Project to fund uniforms and other educational expenses for slum children in India. Website visitors can donate accessories or money. I think this is fantastic way to use creativity for creating awareness in a playful way!
